home is the abiding place of the affections. The Latin root word for home is actually the same word we use for human being, person and people. At it's very core home is where not just your heart is, but the hearts of those you love and trust. This is why most of our homes are adorned with photos on the wall.

Funny and humorous incidents keep happening in our life. Ironically, they just happen unexpectedly as pleasant surprises.

One such humorous incident happened recently. During the recent Diwali vacation, I got an opportunity to go to Mumbai to attend my uncle's son's wedding. It was quite a long journey. So we had our berths booked in the second class sleeper coach.

The compartment we got, we had to share with another family. Our berths faced one another. So till evening we sat on the seats. Since they also belonged to our city, soon a friendship developed between the two families. The auntie was a very fat lady. She occupied most of the space of the compartment. But we could not do anything about it.

Well, during the night something funny happened! I fell from my upper berth on to the fat auntie who was sleeping on the lowest berth. Fortunately neither of us was hurt. Thenceforth everybody made fun of me. I just cannot control my laughter whenever I think about it.

The two legends related to the tea origin are : Indian Legend : A monk named "Bodhidharma" once felt very sleepy while he was meditating. So, he cut off his eye lids. Then, from those eye lids, ten plants arosed. Rajvir said that no one really knows who discovered tea. He told Pranjol that there are many legends attached to tea, to the discovery of tea. According to one story, a Chinese emperor discovered tea by chance. He always boiled water before drinking it. One day a few leaves off the twigs burning under the pot fell into the water. As a result, the boiled water got a delicious flavour. It is said they were tea leaves. According to another Indian legend, Bodhidharma, an ancient Buddhist monk, felt sleep during meditations. So he cut off his eyelids. Ten tea plants grew out of the eyelids. The leaves of these plants when put in hot water and drunk banished sleep.  Rajvir told Pranjol that tea was first drunk in China in 2700 B.C. Words like ‘chai’ and ‘chini are Chinese. Tea came to Europe in the sixteenth century. At first, it was used more as a medicine than as a beverage. Both Rajvir and Pranjol reached Mariani junction. Pranjol’s parents received them on the platform they took them in a car to Dhekiabari, the tea estate managed by Pranjol’s father. On both sides of the tee, they were acres and acres of tea bushes. Women with bamboo baskets on their backs were plucking the new tea leaves, They had come there in the sprouting season. Rajvir said that this season lasts from May 10 July. The best tea is produced during this season. Pranjol’s father told Rajvir that he knew many things about tea Phauations. He said that he would learn more about tea there.

Question 1.
The unsanitary conditions in your colony are causing multiple diseases. Write a letter to the Municipal Commissioner bringing the problem to his notice and request him to take urgent action in the matter. You are Deepak/Deepa of C 2/8, Ankur Enclave, New Delhi.
Answer:
C 2/8, Ankur Enclave
New Delhi
20 August 20XX
The Municipal Commissioner
Shahdara
Delhi 1100XX
Dear Sir

Subject: Insanitary conditions in the colony

I have been a resident of Ankur Enclave for the past eleven years. I would like to bring to your notice the insanitary conditions in our colony. Rubbish and garbage lie in heaps. Lack of drainage system raises a persistent foul smell in the area.

During rainy season water stagnates in pits on the street which makes the whole condition even worse. These become the breeding ground for mosquitoes, which expose the residents to multiple diseases like dengue, malaria, etc. Our colony has become an unhealthy and disease–prone area. Every day, someone or the other is succumbing to deadly diseases. Some of the families have also shifted lock, stock, and barrel to better localities.

You are requested to take an immediate remedial action to set things right.

Thanking you

Yours faithfully

Deepa

Subject : Increasing Dependence on Coaching Institutions

Sir

Through the columns of your reputed newspaper I wish to draw the attention of the general public towards the increasing dependence of students on the coaching institutes. It has generally been observed that students rely more on coaching institutions than on schools. The reason behind this is that these centres are easily accessible and more practice-based. On the other hand, schools prepare students only for the Board Exams and not for the entrance exams.

This trend can be checked by ensuring that teaching in the school classroom is not just limited to board-oriented syllabus. They must prepare students for competitive exams also. Schools must provide more practice-material to the students. The environment of the classroom should be such that the students get interested in studies.

Teachers should pay attention to the individual problems.

I hope you will publish this letter in your newspaper so that the concerned authorities become aware of their shortcomings and do the needful.

Thanking you

Yours sincerely

Arun

(a) The writer is unable to imagine a world without tigers as the power and beauty of these animals is indisputable. They are an integral part of the ecosystem and are a major link in the food chain. (b) We can write to our government regarding the merciless killing of tigers. We can write to the various governments of tiger countries and urge them to protect tigers. Penalties for killing tigers should be strongly enforced. (c) Extremist groups are banning all exotic animal from captivity. This could lead to the end of many species of animals for species whose numbers are extremely low such as clouded leopard. Caring by private owners are rapidly becoming the last havens to preserve them. (d) This is possible because saving tigers from extinction is a global issue but each of us can play a part, by writing to the concerned government to protect these beautiful cats.

Amanda was coped up with her mother's nagging because amanda was that type of girl who always need independence but her mother was always scolding her that don't eat your nails, don't slouch your shoulders, don't eat chocolates and so much instructions were there which was given by her mother. Amanda was in her own dreams/imagination/world that she wants to be a mermaid who swift blissfully in the languid sea and also she wants to be rapunzel whose hair was long and just like rapunzel she was also kept in a palace/tower. So this were the reasons by which amanda was coped up by her mother's nagging.

Gaurav Seth 5 years, 1 month ago

Amanda dwelt in a huge world of imagination to dodge her mother’s nagging because it was getting too much for small girl like her. Every time she gets an instruction, she would just imagine for a freedom.

When she was scolded for chewing ip her nails, Amanda would long to become a mermaid and drift swiftly in a languid sea. She whished if she were an orphan roaming and making pattern bare feet in the street when her mother would ask her to tidy up her room and do the homework. She faces a rage for eating chocolates and she fascinate herself to be the Rapunzel living in a tall tower in her complete lonliness. All day long her mother fret over her casualness and ignorant behaviour. Opposite to this parents should deal their children delicately and allow them to imagine. After all imaginations only have led us to moon and where not. Amanda was positive girl but was confined.

Read the passage given below and answer the questions that follow: Stereotypes are standardized and simplified ideas of groups, based on some prejudices, they are not derived from objective facts, but rather subjective and often unverifiable ideas. As Sociologist Charles E. Hurst states "One reason for stereotypes is the lack of personal, concrete familiarity that individuals have with persons in other racial or ethnic groups. Lack of familiarity encourages the lumping together of unknown individuals". The existence of stereotypes may be explained by the need of groups of people to view themselves as more normal or more superior than other groups. Consequently, stereotypes may be used to justify ill-founded prejudices or ignorance and prevent people of stereotyped groups from entering or succeeding in various activities or fields. The stereotyping group are, generally, reluctant to reconsider their attitudes and behaviour towards stereotyped group. Stereotypes may affect people negatively. This includes forming inaccurate and distorted images and opinions of people. Stereotypes may also be used for scapegoating or for making general erroneous judgments about people. Some stereotyping people may feel comfortable when they prevent themselves from emotional identification with the stereotyped group, which leads to xenophobic or racist behaviour. Finally, another serious consequence of stereotypes is the feeling of inferiority that the stereotyped people may have and which may impair their performance. Q.1. Stereotypes are formed because (a) some people want to prove themselves to be superior (b) some people are reluctant to identify themselves (c ) people are of inherently different races (d) people are think it is harmless2. Attempting to get at truth means rejecting stereotypes and cliches.-Harold Evans Option 1. Option 2 Option 3 Option 4 Q.3. According to the passage, the most serious consequence of stereotyping in the stereotyped group is (a) they feel inferior and hence it adversely affects their performance (b) they feel the need to prove themselves all the time leading to stress (c ) they became racists (d ) they are not included into the mainstream society Q.4. She took him on trips, bought him telescopes, microscopes, cameras, mounting materials and other equipments, and helped him in many other ways. If he did not have anything to do, she found things for him to learn. Even the book that became a turning point in his life was given to him by his mother. Hence, it can be said his mother played a crucial role in the making of the scientist.
