Martial law is the imposition of direct military control of normal civilian functions of government, especially in response to a temporary emergency such as invasion or major disaster, or in an occupied territory. Martial law can be used by governments to enforce their rule over the public.

France in the 18th century had many revolutionary thinkers. Among them were Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu and Diderot. Their revolutionary ideas encouraged people to fight for their rights. They exposed the inefficiency of the monarch and his government and aroused the people to challenge authority.

We need a standard meridian because:
1) To avid difference in time within the country.
2) India has selected 82 Degree 30' East as its standard meridian because it passes centrally through India, hence equidistant from East to West.
3) It is selected as a Prime Meridian to avoid time lag of 2 hours from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat. Its time is indian Standard Time(IST).

Rise of Napoleon:
In 1799 Napoleon became the first council after overthrowing the role of directory. He acquired numerous powers and even opted for a plebiscite in which 99.9 % people voted for his new administrative system. He not only conquered new areas but also made peace treaties with the enemies. All this proves that he was an able administrator. He implemented many reforms from 1799 till 1804 which are given as follows :
1.He stopped inflation through the financial reforms.
2. He established the Bank of France.
3. He resolve the long time confrontation with the Pope which was started with the confiscation of Church’s property in 1789. He event declared Catholic religion as a religion of the majority of French people.
4. Later on he introduced the Napoleonic code which became the basis of French legal system in the future.

The main objectives of Liberals are as follows :
(i) They expected a nation which tolerated all the religions.
(ii) They opposed the uncontrolled powers of dynastic rules.
(iii) They wanted to safeguard the right to individual against government.
(iv) They did not believe in universal adult franchise as they were not democrats.
(v) Liberals argued for a representative elected by the government. They were subjected to laws interrupted by a well-trained judiciary that was independent of rulers and officials.
(vi) In the parts of Europe, where independent nation states did not yet exist. For example, Germany, Italy, etc.
