The legacy of the French revolution:
- The ideas of liberty and democratic rights were the most important legacy of the French Revolution.
- It inspired the Germans, Italians, and Austrians to overthrow their oppressive regimes.
- Colonised people of Asia and Africa were deeplys influenced by the French Revolution. They demanded liberty, equality and justice from their colonial master which finally led to the begining of national movement in their country.
- The declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen gave rights such as right to life, freedom of speech, equality before law, etc.
- The French Revolution put into practise the idea that sovereignity comes from the people and not from the rulers.
- Women actively participated in the Revolution. It marked the begining of women movement across France and world.

Characteristics of the monsoon rainfall in India:
- They are not steady winds but are pulsating in nature .They vary from year to year.
- They have tendency to have breas in rainfall . It has wet and dry spells. They take place only for a few days at a time .
- The monsoons are known for their uncertainties. They are often irregular in their arrival and retreat..
- The monsoons are unevenly distributed. They may cause flood in one part and may be responsible for droughts in the other.

According to this concept poverty must be seen in terms of the poor having to live only in poor surroundings with other poor people, excluded from enjoying social equality with better-off people in better and oppurtunities that others enjoy. Eg: Caste System

The cooperatives play an important role in food security in India, especially in the Southern and Western parts of the country.
The fallowing points state their role
(i) The cooperatives societies set up shops to sell low priced goods to poor people, e.g. in Tamil Nadu, around 94% shops are run by the cooperatives.
(ii) Mother Dairy, in Delhi, is making strides in provision of milk and vegetables to the consumers at controlled rate which is decided by Delhi Government.
(iii) Amul is another success story of cooperatives in milk and milk products from Gujarat. It has brought about White Revolution in India.
(iv) In Maharashtra, Academy of Development Science (ADS) has facilitated a network of NGOs for setting up Grain Banks in different regions.

- All villagers had access to the commons.
- Here, they pastured their cows and grazed their sheep.
- They collected fuelwood for fire and berries and fruits for food.
- They fished in the rivers and ponds and hunted rabbits in common forests.
- For the poor, the common land was essential for survival.
- It supplemented their meagre income, sustained their cattle and helped them during bad times when crops failed.
