Margie and Tommy were neighbours and friends. They lived in 2157, in an age of technology when going to school meant sitting in a room by oneself, being taught by a mechanical teacher that was adjusted to fit the learner's mind and reading from a telebook with moving words.

Sue is a true friend who dearly loves Johnsy. She tries to motivate Johnsy by humming and being cheerful as she sits by her friend drawing. But, when she realizes the Johnsy has counted the leaves that have fallen from a vine, she "looks solicitously out of the window." Calling her friend "dear," Sue asks Johnsy what she counts. When Johnsy tells her that with the fall of the last leaf from the vine she must go, too. Sue acts scornful of "such nonsense"; speaking positively, she tells Johnsy that her thoughts about death are "naughty." For, says Sue, who lies in order to convince Johnsy, the doctor has said that her chances of getting well were "ten to one."
Sue pretends that the situation with Johnsy is not of the magnitude that it is; in her love and hope, she acts as though Johnsy will soon be well. However, she is truly worried. So, she begs Johnsy to close her eyes because she needs the light in order to continue her drawings. Johnsy agrees, but she tells Sue to hurry as she wants to go down like the last leaf. she goes to Mr. Behrman, informing him of the gravity of Johnsy's condition, hoping there is something he can do. Angered that Johnsy is ill, Behrman complains, then, comes to pose, Sue takes him outside to look at the barren vine with one last leaf.
So greatly concerned is Sue about her friend that she effects the change in Johnsy's psyche that causes her to become well. Sue's determination to do what she can for her friend saves Johnsy's life. There is no doubt that Sue loves Johnsy as she has thought about what the doctor has told her and done everything she can to save Johnsy.

The title of The Last Leaf is significant as it compares the falling of the last leaf to death. Johnsy, who suffered from pneumonia, felt that when the last leaf fell, she would die. Her neighbor, and artist, was determined to keep the last leaf intact on the tree. He braved a storm to paint the last leaf on a wall, making Johnsy believe that the leaf had not fallen. He contracted pneumonia in doing so, and died when the last leaf fell.

We defile and outrage it by recklessly exploiting its precious resources. We have done so much damage to it with our selfishness and greed that it will now take years’ dedicated work to restore its pristine glory and purity.
We have defiled it by cutting forests at an alarming rate; we have defiled it by polluting its pure air by burning fossil fuels foolishly; we have defiled it by dumping effluents, sewage, plastics into its rivers, lakes, oceans, and seas. We have defiled it by killing many species of animals to the verge of extinction.

All men living on this earth live and die the same way. they share same fate. Beneath different kinds of colour dress and faces, all have the heart of man. While they live, they walk on the same earth. After their death, they will be buried under the same earth. The apparent differences of lands and race are only superficial and not real.

The poet James Kirkup proves that there are no foreign countries by saying that war amongst countries is pointless because men form varied nations are not different from each other. They might have same uniforms but have the same human body. These men breathe the same air, they walk on the same earth as us inside which after death everyone lies.
