Saint Peter became angry at her greed because she did not give a piece of cake to Saint Peter to satiate his hunger. When he cursed the lady, she turned into a bird. She flew through the chimney. Finally, she became a woodpecker. She wore a red cap and her body was black. Besides, she was bound to live in the forest with scanty food.

The Northland is far away in the north. In this land of snow and ice, the days are very short. The nights are too long. When it snows, they harness swift reindeer to the sledges. Children are packed with so many layers of clothes to protect from the cold. In their funny and furry clothes they look like cubs of bears.Q

This line belongs from the story ‘The Snake and the mirror’ which revolves around a homeopathic doctor who encountered a snake who was about to bite him.
Thankfully, the snake saw the mirror where she watched her reflection very carefully and forgot about the doctor.
This ushered the doctor into the idea that one should look visually attractive to forget the world and be at peace.

The room not being electrified, the room being very small and shabby, his scanty collection of clothes and a very small amount of money in his suitcase are evidences to show that the narrator's earnings were meagre.
In the story, ‘The Snake and the Mirror’, a homeopathic doctor narrates an incident of his life to the writer. From the description we can presume that ‘the doctor’ at that time was poor. He begins his tale by stating that his earnings were meagre as he had just started his practice.
He had rented a very small room and could not afford it to be electrified. He had very few clothes and one solitary black coat which was wearing away. His total savings were just sixty rupees which he kept in a suitcase. All these were the ‘evidences’ to show that the narrator's earnings were meagre.

Admiring his beauty, when the doctor sat on the chair, there came a dull thud as if a rubbber tube had fallen on the ground.
no sooner had he turned than a fat snake wriggled over his back and landed on his shoulder and coiled around the doctors left arm. the doctor sat there still as a statue. he felt terrible pain in his arm but he was helpless and he could do nothing to save himself.

The poet is standing on the roadway or on the pavements of grey colour. This colour epitomises decay. He compares that with the floral beauty of Innisfree. However, standing even there, he can hear the sounds of the lake water lapping by the shore. He hears it in the core of his heart.
