Rebellion of 1857 was a major, but ultimately unsuccessful, uprising in India in 1857–58 against the rule of the British East India Company, which functioned as a sovereign power on behalf of the British Crown.[4][5] The rebellion began on 10 May 1857 in the form of a mutiny of sepoys of the Company's army in the garrison town of Meerut, 40 mi (64 km) northeast of Delhi (now Old Delhi). It then erupted into other mutinies and civilian rebellions chiefly in the upper Gangetic plain and central India,[a][6][b][7] though incidents of revolt also occurred farther north and east.[c][8] The rebellion posed a considerable threat to British power in that region,[d][9] and was contained only with the rebels' defeat in Gwalior on 20 June 1858.[10] On 1 November 1858, the British granted amnesty to all rebels not involved in murder, though they did not declare the hostilities to have formally ended until 8 July 1859. Its name is contested, and it is variously described as the Sepoy Mutiny, the Indian Mutiny, the Great Rebellion, the Revolt of 1857, the Indian Insurrection, and the First War of Independence.[e][11]

Following are the terms used in Probability. Random experiment - An experiment which can result in a set of possible outcomes. An outcome is the result of the experiment. Example, bowler bowling a ball in cricket. It can result in batsman hitting it, wicket, no-ball, wide etc. Event - Each outcome of an event or a collection of outcomes make an event. Example, tossing of coin results in getting a Head which is an event. Getting a tail is also an event.Equally likely outcomes - When the probability of all the outcomes in a random experiment is almost equal. Example, tossing of coin. It can either result in heads or tails, so the two outcomes are equally likely.

blue dye' is cash crop which was in a high demand in Europe at the time of British colonial rule in India. ... Therefore, with a motive to seek maximum profit, the British forced theIndian farmers to grow indigo, especially in the areas of Burdwan, North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, etc.

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 2 months ago

The British had come to India as traders. They were looking for profitable trading opportunities. Hence, they introduced the cultivation of cash crops like opium, tea and indigo as they could make large profits by trading these crops.

For example, indigo was exported to Europe to manufacture indigo dye which was used in the textile factories of Europe. Opium was exported to China in return for tea. Sugar was exported to Europe for use as a sweetener.

The process of rusting cannot be called combustion due to the following reasons :

  • Combustion produces energy in the form of heat. No energy is obtained in a rusting process.
  • Combustion is a chemical process in which a combustible substance reacts with oxygen to produce heat and light whereas in rusting, a metal reacts with oxygen to produce metallic oxide.
  • Rusting is a very slow process compared to combustion.
  • Rusting can take place at room temperature whereas combustion takes place only at a specific ignition temperature.

Let the adjacent angles of a parallelogram be x and 8c.

Then, we have x + (3 x) = 180° [adjacent angles of parallelogram are supplementary]

=> 4 x = 180°

=> x = 45°

Thus, the angles are 45°, 135°.

Hence, the angles are 45°, 135, 45°, 135°. [ opposite angles in a parallelogram are equal]
