A metaphor and a simile are quite similar actually. A metaphor also uses compares to things that are in no way similar. It does so to bring out the symbolism. A metaphor is a word or phrase used to show its similarity to another thing. It helps to explain an idea, but if you take a metaphor at its literal meaning it will sound absurd.

An example of a metaphor is “Alex is a chicken”. Literally, this sounds so very absurd. But this is a metaphor which suggests that Alex is a coward, or frightened. It compares or implies that Alex is a chicken to bring out the symbolism. Some other examples are ‘love is a battlefield”, “all the world’s a stage”, “that technology is a dinosaur” etc.

While a simile and metaphor seem to be very similar, there is one basic difference between the two. In a simile, the comparison happens with the help of the words “as” and “like”. A metaphor will not have either of those two words.

The arrangement of the given rational number is as per the rule of distributive law over subtraction.

Now take out 1/5 as common.

Then,

= 1/5 [(2/15) – (2/5)]

The LCM of the denominators 15 and 5 is 15

(2/15) = [(2×1)/ (15×1)] = (2/15)

and (2/5) = [(2×3)/ (5×3)] = (6/15)

= 1/5 [(2 – 6)/15]

= 1/5 [-4/15]

= (1/5) × (-4/15)

= -4/75

The School Boy – Summary The School Boy poem is written by William Blake. The poem is about a schoolboy who is unhappy. He says that his childhood is crumpled for the sake of learning and teaching. The boy likes mornings, trees, and birds. He loves being in nature. However, due to his school, his mornings are unpleasant and unhappy. He does not like going to school and is not interested in studies and books. We all know that the pleasure of childhood lies in being free and happy like a bird. The poet here compares a child in school as a bird in a cage. He thus says that as a bird is unhappy in the cage so is a child in school. He says that a child who is scared by his parents and teachers cannot be happy and joyful. The poet further says that the parents should not deprive a child of joy and freedom for the sake of studies. Depriving them of joy and freedom is similar to deprive the world of its spring. The poet also compares it with nipping the buds and flowers from the plants. He is of the opinion that this world will be a sorrowful place in the absence of a happy childhood. The poet beautifully compares it with nature. He says that without a happy childhood, we shall only have a winter of sorrow. We shall never be able to experience the summer of joy. The poem teaches us that being parents we shall take due care of our children. It is our duty to see that our children are happy, joyful, and free. If we want our generations to be happy and prosperous we need to make their childhood a happy one.

The poem throws light on the mindset of a school boy. He is unhappy. He loves outdoor life. He hears the birds sing. The blowing of horn by the huntsmen pleases him. He wants to enjoy the company of the skylark. But he can find such joy only on a summer morning.

Instead of living like a free bird, the boy is made to go to school. It makes him sad. He hates going to school because of his cruel old teacher. There the small children spend the day from morning to evening and get disappointed.

Sometimes the boy sits for hours with his head hanging down but he is caged. He finds no joy in reading his book. The school is a cheerless place for him. He gets fed up with the shower of words from his teacher.

The boy compares himself to a bird who is bom free to fly and enjoy life but he is caged. He cannot sing in a cage. The boy has the feeling of being a prisoner at school. He is all the time afraid of the teacher. As a caged bird he lets his wings droop down and forgets to share the joy of spring.

The poet calls upon the parents not to be so harsh or cmel to the children. School going kids are as delicate as birds and flowers. They need fresh air and free movement to grow healthy and happy. Keeping them under excess cage will make them unhappy. If a plant is denied air and is kept in dark, it won’t grow well and never bear fruit.

Friction is a force that resists the relative motion between two objects or materials. The causes of this resistive force are molecular adhesion, surface roughness, and deformations. Adhesion is the molecular force resulting when two materials are brought into close contact with each other.

Friction is a force that resists the relative motion between two objects or materials. The causes of the resistive force of friction are:

  • Molecular Adhesion
  • Surface Roughness
  • Plowing effect

Gaurav Seth 5 years ago

When we try to move one object over another object, the irregularities present on their surface get entangled or  locked with one another. The interlocking of irregularities of the two surfaces opposes the motion of one object over the other and give rise to force of friction.

Friction is caused by the interlocking of irregularities in the surface of two objects which are in contact with each other. To move one object over the other ,we have to apply a force to overcome interlocking of the irregularities in their surfaces.

More the roughness of a surface larger is the number of irregularities on its surface and has greater will be the friction does the force of friction.The force friction is greater if very rough surfaces are involved.

Diagonal of rhombus = 12cm and 16cm

half of diagonal = 6cm and 8cm

by using Pythagoras theorem

at the point o where diangonals are meet at that point there are angle formed 90°
so,

a (side) of rhombus = √p² + b²

a = √6² + 8² = √36+64 =√ 100 = 10cm

now , as we know that Perimeter of rhombus

= 4a = 4×10 = 40cm Ans

Let one diagonal = 3X, then other diagonal will be= 4X

Area of Rhombus = d1*d2/2 = 54 cm2 (given)

or 3X * 4X /2= 54 cm2

or 6 X2 =54cm2

or X = Sqrt (54/6) =3 cm

Therefore d1 = 9 d2 =12

As diagonals are perpendicular bisector of each other

Side of a rhombus = Sqrt { (d1/2)2+(d2/2)2}

side of rhombus = sqrt{(9/2)2+(12/2)2} = Sqrt ( 81/4 + 144/4)= Sqrt(225/4)

or Side = 15 / 2 = 7.5 cm (Ans)

Gaurav Seth 5 years ago

As diagonals of Rhombus are perpendicular bisector of each other

(Side of a rhombus )2= (d1/2)2+(d2/2)2

Here given d1 = 24 cm Side = 13 cm

Therefore 132= (24/2)2 + (d2/2)2

or d2/2 = Sqrt(169-144) = Sqrt (25) = 5

or d2 = 10 cm

Therefore Area of the Placard = d1*d2/2 = 24 * 10 /2 = 120 cm2

In a parallelogram sum of the adjacent angles

equals supplementary.

opposite angles are equal.

Let the smaller angle = x°

larger angle = twice the smaller angle - 30°

=2x° - 30°

x° +2 x° - 30 = 180°

3x° = 180 + 30

3x = 210

x = 210 / 3

x = 70°

Therefore,

smaller angle = x = 70°

larger angle = 2x - 30

= 2 × 70 - 30

= 140 - 30

= 110°

Required parallelogram angles are 70° , 110° ,

70° , 110°

In every rhombus, diagonal are perpendicular and bisect each other

Take rhombus as ABCD and bisecting point of diagonals as O

In every rhombus all sides are equal

So AB=BC=CD=DA=5cm

One diagonal is 6cm let AC

OA=OC=3cm

Since it is perpendicular so Pythagorean property applies

(OA)^2+(OB)^2=(AB)^2

=3^2+OB^2=5^2

=9+OB^2=25

=OB^2=25-9=16

=OB=4

Since OB+OD=BD

Then 4cm+4cm=8cm....OB and OD are equal

Area of rhombus=1/2×(d1×d2)

=1/2×(6×8)

=24cm2

Drip system

There is network of narrow pipes with small holes in the fields.When water flows through the narrow pipes,it fall drop by drop at the position of roots of the plants.This water is absorbed by the soil in the root zone of the plants and utilised by the plant.There is no wastage of irrigation of water.

Advantages

1)It provides water to plants drop by drop.So water is not wasted at all.

2) It minimises the use of water in agriculture.It is useful in those regions where the availability of water is poor.
