any wild plant that grows in an unwanted place, especially in a garden or field where it prevents the cultivated plants from growing freely
Weeds are unwanted plants that damage the crops in the cultivated field. Example - xanthium and parthenium.
Their removal is necessary because they compete for food, space and light with the growing crops. They also take up nutrients and reduce the growth of crops
Weeds can be controlled by preventive methods such as intercropping and crop rotation, and by the use of pesticides.

The conflict between the Bengal nawabs and the East India Company started when the Nawabs refused to grant the Company concessions and demanded large tributes for the Company,s right to trade. The Nawabs also denied the Company any right to mint coins, and stopped it from extending its fortifications.
The Bengal Nawabs accused the Company of deceit, and claimed that the Company was depriving the Bengal government of huge amounts of revenue and undermining the authority of the Nawabs and disrespecting them.
The Company also had its grievances against the Nawabs. It felt that the demands of the Nawabs were unfair and that their trade could flourish only if the duties were removed. The company wanted to enlarge its fortification and build forts. All this led to conflicts between the Bengal Nawabs and the Company.

- The Mughal emperor in the year 1765, appointed the company as the Diwan of the provinces of Bengal.
- The Diwani allowed the company to use the vast revenue resources of Bengal.
- This solved a major problem that the company had earlier faced.
- The Diwani allowed the Company to use the vast revenue resources of Bengal. After the assumption of Diwani, gold was not imported from Britain and revenues from India were enough to finance Company expenses.
- The outflow of gold from Britain stopped after the assumption of Diwani.
- Now revenues from India could finance company expenses.
- These revenues were used to purchase cotton and silk textiles in India and to maintain Company troops and meet the cost of building the Company fort and offices at Calcutta.
