Federalism is one of the most important and innovative concepts in the U.S. Constitution, although the word never appears there. Federalism is the sharing of power between national and state governments.
Examples:
United States: Among the 50 states, there is symmetric autonomy, but the District of Columbia is directly controlled by the federal government.
Russia: There are 83 federal subjects in Russia but with different levels of authority. Some smaller entities, such as the republics, also have more autonomy than states.

Indian Secularism is based on the principle of Equal respect for all religions, where State respects every religious community and their sentiments. The strategy of non interference implies State will not interfere in the religious practices of any religion. For example, Sikhs are allowed to wear Turbans, which is their religious symbol. However, this does not mean that our principle of Secularism is absolute, State practices principled distance where it can initiate state sponsored reform , to deal with certain religious practices which are discriminatory and unjust, like caste.

Untouchability is a menace and social evil associated with traditional Hindu society. It is being practiced since times immemorial and despite various efforts made by social reformers such as Dr. B. R. Ambedkar; and despite there being provision on abolition of untouchability in our Constitution under Article 17, the evil is still in practice in our country.
