Coal tar (liquid): Coal tar is a mixture of different carbon compounds. It thick, black liquid with unpleasant smell. The fractional distillation of coal tar gives many chemical substances which are used in the preparation of dyes, explosives, paints, synthetics fibers, drugs, and pesticides. Some of these chemical substances are benzene, toluene, phenol and aniline. Naphthalene balls used to repel moth and other insects are also obtained from coal tar.
Coal Gas: Coal gas is mainly a mixture of hydrogen, methane and carbon monoxide. The gases present in coal gas are combustible and hence, it is an excellent fuel. It has high calorific value. It was used for lighting houses, factories and streets in Mumbai until 1950. It was also used for cooling earlier.
Coke: contains 98 % carbon. It is porous, tough, black and the purest form of coal. Like charcoal, it Is a good fuel and burns without smoke. It is largely employed as a reducing agent in the extraction of metals from their ores. It is also used in making fuel gases like water gas and producer gas.

Given force of 1200 n acts on the surface of area 10 cm square, here force is same as thrust which is equal to 1200 N, Area = 10 sq cm
We need to convert area into sq m
So 10 sq cm = 10 cm x cm = 10 cm2
= 10 / 100 x 100 = 1 / 1000 m^2 = 0.001 m2
Pressure = Force / unit area
= 1200 / 0.001
= 1200 x 1000
Pressure = 12 x 105 Pascals

A cell wall is defined as a rigid, external layer that is specifically designed to provide structural support and rigidity. It also keeps the interior components of the cell intact and safe from the external environment.
The main function of the cell wall is to provide structural strength and support, and also provide a semi-permeable surface for molecules to pass in and out of the cell.

Amoeba -
- It is unicellular and does not have a definite shape.
- In order to move, it thrusts out temporary finger-like projections called ‘false-feet’ or pseudopodia in the direction of movement.
- The cellular contents are pushed forward into the pseudopodium.
- Amoeba moves forward because of this flowing motion of the cytoplasm.
- This manner is often referred as amoeboid movement.

Some common methods of food preservation are as follows:
Sun Drying: This is a traditional method of food preservation. Sun-drying helps in removing moisture from food. Grains are dried in sun before being stored. Many vegetables are also sun-dried so that they can be used in off season.
Chemical Method: Some chemicals prevent the growth of microorganisms in food. These chemicals are used in pickles and jams to preserve them. Salt, acids and oil are also used as food preservatives. Examples: sodium benzoate and sodium metabisulphate.
Preservation by common salt: When a food item is kept in plenty of salt, water from food comes out because of osmosis. It results in dehydration of the food item. Absence of moisture helps to prevent the growth of microbes. Fish, meat and pickles are preserved by adding salt.
Preservation by Sugar: Sugar preserves food by reducing moisture in food. Jam, jelly and squash are preserved by adding sugar.
