The conversion of ammonium to nitrate nitrogen is called Nitrification.
Nitrification is a two-step process. Bacteria known as Nitrosomonas convert ammonia and ammonium to nitrite. Next, bacteria called Nitrobacter finish the conversion of nitrite to nitrate.

Immunization is the process by which an individual's immune system becomes fortified against an agent.
The principle of immunization is based on the memory of the immune system on encountering an infectious agent. On subsequent encounters with the same or related microbe, the response of the immune system is multiplied greatly, leading to quick elimination of the infection.

The process of reproduction in humans takes places in two steps: fertilization and development of an embryo.
Fertilization:
Fertilization is the first step in sexual reproduction. When sperms come in contact with an egg, one of the sperms may fuse with the egg. Such fusion of the egg and the sperm is called fertilization. During fertilization, the nuclei of the sperm and the egg fuse to form a single nucleus which results in the formation of a fertilized egg or zygote. It is due to fertilization that the new individual inherits some characteristics from the mother and some from the father.
Development of Embryo:
The zygote divides repeatedly to form a ball of hundreds of eggs called an embryo. The embryo moves down the oviduct into the uterus and settles there. It starts developing into a baby by growing body parts such as hands, legs, head, eyes, ears, etc. The stage of the embryo in which all the body parts can be identified is called a foetus. When the development of the foetus is complete, the mother gives birth to the baby.

- The force which always opposes the motion of one body over another body is called frictional force or friction.
Advantages of friction:
- We are able to walk on ground because friction between the sole of our shoes and ground prevents us from slipping over the ground.
- Friction between tyres of a car and the road enables a car to move forward on road without skidding.
- The brakes of a car or a bicycle work by friction.
- We are able to write and make drawings on paper because there is friction between the tip of pencil and paper.
- We can hold a glass tumbler in our hands because of friction between the glass tumbler and our hands.
- We are able to fix nails in a wall due to friction.
Disadvantages of friction:
- Friction wears away the soles of our shoes.
- The tyres of vehicles wear out gradually due to friction.
- Friction wears out the rubbing machine parts.
- Friction wears out the brake pads of vehicles gradually.
- Friction wears out steps of staircases in buildings and foot over-bridges.
- Friction produces heat which may damage machines.

Electric current is expressed as the amount of charge flowing through a particular area in unit time.
Quantitatively, electric current is defined as the rate of flow of electric charge.
Current, I = Charge flowing (Q) / Time taken (t)
The S.I. unit of current is ampere (A), where 1 ampere = 1 coulomb/second.
