The Nagara style is typically characterised by the architectural wonder, which ideally portrayed the craftsmanship of the artists. A study of the temples of northern India reveals two distinct features, in Planning and in Elevation. In plan, the temples were basically quadrangle with graduated projections in the centre. In elevation, it resembles a tower gradually inclining inwards in a convex curve. According to the plan the projections are carried upwards to the top of the Sikhara, and thus there is strong emphasis on vertical lines in elevation. The Nagara style is spread across various parts of India. It therefore, exhibits diverse verities and implications in separate outlines of development and elaboration. Such plans and the curvilinear tower are, however, common to every medieval temple of northern India.

‘Setting of an agenda’ by the media means that the media plays an important role in shaping our thoughts. By ‘setting agendas’, the media influences the way we think and makes us aware of issues which it thinks is important. One instance of this would be the raising of awareness about the levels of pesticides in colas. Another is the Fashion week, which was at the front of headlines while several slums were being demolished in Mumbai.

Jatis were the sub-castes which were grouped on the basis of economic and social status. They were ranked as per their backgrounds and their occupations. Ranks were not fixed permanently. They varied as per the power, influence and resources controlled by members of the jatis. Hence the status of the same jaii could vaiy from area to area Jatis had their own system of ruling. They framed their own rules and regulations for managing the conduct of their members. An assembly of elders was responsible for enforcing these regulations. This assembly of elders was called jati panchayat. But jatis were also required to abide by the rules of their villages.

The social rules and rituals prescribed by the Brahamanas were not followed by many societies. Nor were these societies divided into numerous unequal classes. We call such societies tribes. Members of each tribe had kinship bonds amongst them. Some of the tribes were engaged in agriculture for their livelihood. Others were hunter-gatherers or herders. Some tribes were nomadic i.e. they were not settled at a place. A tribal group controlled land and pastures jointly which were divided among households according to its own rules.
