(10.4) ,the force exerted by the earth on the moon is F = G M × m d 2 = 6.7 × 10 − 11 N m 2 k g − 2 × 6 × 10 24 k g × 7.4 × 10 22 k g ( 3.84 × 10 8 m ) 2 = 2.02 × 10 20 N. Thus the force exerted by the earth on the moon is 2.02 × 10 20 N.
