A siren is fitted on a car which is moving with a velocity of 36 km/hr. A motorist moving with a velocity of 18 km/h heard siren sound at a frequency of 500 c.p.s for the relative motion between the car (source of sound) , the motorist(listener or observer ) and intervening medium, you will find that the apparent frequency of sound heard by the motorist( listener or observer) is different from the actual frequency of sound emitted by the car ( source). This is due to Doppler's effect in sound which is basically is the motion related charge in the frequency of sound.
1. Calculate the actual frequency, when the car and the motorist are moving in opposite direction and approaching each other. ( Take velocity of sound in air =330m/s)
