Lysosomes serve as the intracellular digestive system. They also remove worn out and poorly working cellular organelles by digesting them to make way for their new replacements. Since they remove cell debris, they are called scavengers of the cells.

In simple sentence , we can say that lysosomes have digestive enzymes .When lysosomes burst the digestive enzymes digest their own cell. So, Lysosomes are also called as cellular scavengers.

Lysosomes are phagocytic (engulf or say destroy the damaged cell organelles) so we can call them cellular scavengers
