The king became even more desperate for the hundredth tiger after killing 99. It was after a long wait that the last tiger finally appeared in front of him and he was overjoyed. He shot the tiger with boundless joy and the bullet missed its mark. The tiger was weak and thus, fainted by the sound of the bullet whizzing past. The king thought that it was dead and was on cloud nine. He ordered the tiger to be brought to the palace in a royal procession and went away. When the hunters went to pick it up, the tiger was conscious again. The hunters were afraid of losing their jobs so they killed it themselves.. i.e. the hundredth tiger was killed by the king's hunters. The king was kept in the same misconception and the wooden toy tiger became the hundredth tiger to kill him and ultimately, the chief astrologer's prediction proved to be true.
