The title itself is a metaphor for the lost childhood in the lives of countless children. Spring is the season of hope and new life and childhood is meant to be like spring. But children crushed in the twin burden of poverty and child labour can hardly hope of spring in their life.

Childhood can be called the spring of a man's life. ... Since they don't enjoy the privileges of childhood that the children of affluent families enjoy, the poet considers these children whose spring (childhood) has been lost. Hence, the title 'Lost Spring' is justified
