रनोग मीरा को बावरी इसलिए कहते हैं क्योंकि वह कृष्ण प्रेम में पागल होकर उनकी मूर्ति के सम्मुख नाचती रहती है। वह कृष्ण को अपना पति मानती है। मीरा संतों की संगति में रहती है।

उस समय के समाज में स्त्रियों पर अनेक प्रतिबंध और नियम लगाए गए थे। मीरा इन प्रचलित मान्यताओं का खण्डन करती थी। उस समय के समाज में स्त्रियों को पुरुषो के बीच नाच-गाना करना समाज के नियम के विरुद्ध था ,लेकिन मीरा ये सब करती।इसलिए लोग मीरा को बावरी कहते।

लोग मीरा को बावरी इस लिए कहते है क्युकी वो श्री कृष्ण के प्रेम में पागल इधर उधर घूमती रहती हैं और वो श्री कृष्ण के मूर्ति के सामने मस्त मगन होकर नाचती हैं । ये सोचे बिना की लोग क्या सोचेंगे उनके बारे में।
