How to draw the parallels of latitudes
  • 1 answers

Sia ? 3 years, 7 months ago

Lines joining places with the same latitudes are called parallels. The value of equator is 0° and the latitude of the poles are 90°N and 90°S. If parallels of latitude are drawn at an interval of one degree, there will be 89 parallels in the northern and the southern hemispheres each.
Using a map of the world, draw a straight line down through Meridian, England from North Pole to South Pole. This is the Prime Meridian, or Latitude 0.
Now draw another line left to right (or vice versa) across the world, making sure to put Quito, Ecuador through the line. This is the Equator, also known as Longitude 0.
If the Prime Meridian and the Equator intersect in the Atlantic Ocean off the Gold Coast of Africa, you have your latitude and longitude 'Ground Zero’.
