When cells have capacity to divide at certain place,which is responsible for the growth of plant is called MERISTEMATIC TISSUES. When cells lost their dividing capacity then it is called a PERMANENT TISSUES.

Meristematic tissue -three types-apical Meristematic, lateral Meristematic,intercalary Meristematic. Responsible for growth.Present at locations where plants grow like roots, stems. Cells can divide to form new cells. Permanent tissues -two types-simple and complex permanent tissues. Made up of those cells which have lost their capability to divide. They have definite shape, size, thickness.They may be dead or living.

Meristematic tissues in plants consist of a mass of undifferentiated cells whose main function is to participate in plant growth. Permanent tissues, on the other hand, are differentiated tissues, carrying out dedicated functions.
