It waa the Mega project started in 1990 so as to find out the sequence of all the 20000-25000 estimated genes. It was a very costly project and was initally supported by US department of energy and National Institute of health. This project leads to the sequencing of whole human genome and was completed in 2003. This project led to tha development of an another field known as Bioinformatics.

It is also called MEGA Project. The total cost of the project was 9 billion US$ and an enormous amount of data was generated.
