The valency can be calcualted by electronic configuration- 1s²,2s²,2p⁶, 3s²,3p⁶,4s²,3d¹⁰,,..... For ex ample in the case of oxygen it has atomic no.-8, So from the above formula(electronic configuration) Oxygen-8(atomic no.) 1s²,2s²,2p⁴ 2,2+4=2,6 Thus ,no. Of eletrons in the last shell is called valency so, 6 is valency

The maximum no. Of electrons an element can either gain, loose or share as per its energy is called valence. Molecular mass is simple. It is the mass(atomic mass) of all the molecules of an element .
