(1) Indian monsoon is highly erratic, depending on it may not help in yielding better crops. (2) Water intensive crops like rice, sugarcane, tea, cotton, etc requires a lot of water which can be provided easily through irrigation system. (3) HYV seeds requires large quantity of water to grow. (4) Indian economy is an agrarian economy, thus irrigation is required for production of good quality yields. (5) Availability of irrigation system encourages farmers tk grow many types of crops on the same land throughout the year. This gave them a sense of stability and motivates them.

India is agrarian economy and in India mostly farmers are dependent on the rainfall and due to breaks in monsoon it will create dry spell in cultivation so there is need of irrigation 2 - spatial temporal variation in rainfall 3. crops like jute, rice and sugercane requires extensive water so there is need of irrigation facility.
