Distribution of electrons or arrangement of electrons in an atom(in shell or orbit) of an element is called electronic configuration. It is denoted by the 2(n)square. For example, k shell is the 1st shell so here n=1. Therefore, 2(1)square=2 It means that k shell or first shell has the capacity to hold 2 electrons. Similarly by this formula we can find the distribution of electrons in each shell. L shell or second can hold 8 electrons. M shell or third shell can hold 18 electrons. N shell or fourth shell can hold 32 electrons.
