A) 1st wave : colonial labour were sent to work on plantation areas under the time bound contacts known as girmit act (Indian immigration act). B) 2nd wave : venture out into the neighbouring countries in search of economic opportunities is steady outflow of India's skilled and semi skilled workers. C) 3rd wave : comprises of the skilled professionals like doctors, Engineers, financial experts, media persons to developed countries such as USA, UK, Australia, ect and causes brain drain.

Third wave:

It comprises professionals like doctors, engineers, software engineers, management consultants, financial experts, media persons to countries such as USA, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and Germany.
These professionals enjoy the distinction of being highly educated, the highest earning and prospering groups.
