Features of Poverty in India:

Poverty is more in rural areas than in the urban areas of the country. The main reason for poverty is overpopulation and underemployment.
The increasing prices of the commodities and low per capita income are the reason for poverty in India.
Due to the high level of poverty, there is an increase in illiteracy and unemployment.
There was a major fall in the poverty line from 1977-78, and 1983-84.
There is shortage of jobs which results in low income for the people.
If the jobs are not created for these people then the poverty line will keep on increasing.
