The Last Leaf by O. Henry portrays a story of two sisters and a painter. Johnsy and Sue were two sisters and Behrman was a painter who used to live downstairs of the same flat. He loved two sisters like his daughters.
There was an ivy creeper of their residence. One day Johnsy fell ill and she develops a fancy that when the last leaf from the tree will fall, she will die. One day Johnsy shared her fancy with Behrman and he assured to help the little girl.
At the end of the story we see, on the night of heavy snowfall Behrman painted a leaf on the wall and in that way he has prevented the fall of the last leaf. Her will to live her life returned but Behrman, who painted the leaf for her caught pneumonia and passed away. This justifies that Behrman was a blessing for Johnsy in disguise.
