center idea of the poem the legend of the northland
  • 1 answers
The central idea of the poem is greed and selfishness can result in serious complications. Greed is considered to be a cardinal sin. The poem Legend of the Northland beautifully highlights this truth. People who are greedy not only worsen other’s problems and sufferings, but also attract untold misery for themselves. In the poem The Legend of Northland, the old woman behaved very greedily and selfishly to St. Peter who was hungry and faint. She did not have the heart to give even a small cake to the hungry saint. Her selfishness infuriated the divine saint and he converted her to a woodpecker.   If the old woman had shown kindness and given a cake to St. Peter, he surely would have blessed her and multiplied her joys.
