A painful transition for the soviet union and for those Soviet union bureaucrats who were fully dependent on the communist party,this was painful for them because that communist party ruled for 70 years and served the all of the economy for the benefits for people of the country and in the arms race...It would be painful to follow capitalism from which they were fighting from a long years ago... Answer:  Shock Therapy was a painful process of transition from an authoritarian socialist system to a democratic capitalist system. This transformation system was influenced by the world bank and the IMF in Russia, Central Asia and East Europe. Though it varies in intensity and speed amongst the former second world countries but its direction and features were quite similar.
