Why common salt is said to be a substance and salty water a mixture?

Common salt is a pure substance(compound) because it is made up of 2 types of elements, i.e., Sodium and Chlorine. These 2 substances cant be separated by physical processes. While, salty water is a mixture of water and salt and can be separated by physical processes like evaporation.
