Protoplasm is the physical phase of life.
All protoplasm composed of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen form the basis for all. They are also constituents of carbon dioxide, water and nitrogen compounds essential for life.
Huxley emphasised on the above theory and has supported the fact that protoplasm is the physical phase of life and forms the basis for our life.
These new compounds, like the elementary bodies, are lifeless. But when brought together under certain circumstances, they give rise to the still complex body.
Hence, protoplasm is referred to as the physical phase of life.
