Define osmosis.what happens when a plant cell is put into a hypertonic medium ??
  • 2 answers
Osmosis is the the process of solvent moving from lower concentration to higher concentration. It requires a semi permeable membrane. When the cell is placed in a hypertonic solution water does moves out of the cell andnit gets shrinked

Alok Gupta 4 years ago

Osmosis is the spontaneous net movement of solvent molecules through a selectively permeable membrane into a region of higher solute concentration, in the direction that tends to equalize the solute concentrations on the two sides. When a plant cell is placed in a solution that is hypertonic relative to the cytoplasm, water moves out of the cell and the cell shrinks.
