  • Lysosomes are sphere-shaped sacs filled with hydrolytic enzymes that have the capability to break down many types of biomolecules.
  • Lysosomes act as waste disposing of structures by the removal and degradation of undesirable products, both from the outside of the cell and from the inside of the cell.
  • In case of a rupture in the lysosome, the enzymes are released in the cytoplasm and end up digesting the contents of the cell, this results in cell death. Due to this, the lysosome is also known as suicide bags of cells.
