Some silent features for genetic codes are as follows:=(1) the code is triplet 61 codons are coded for amino acids and three codons do not code for amino acids are called stop codons (UAG,UGA,UAA).(2)codons are ambiguous and specific code for one amino acid. (3) The code is degenerate some amino acids are coded by more than one codon. (4) the codon is read in mRNA in a contiguous fashion without any punctuation (5) The codon is nearly universal.AUG has dual functions. It codes for methionine and also acts as initiator codon.

Genetic code is the relationship of sequence of amino acid in polypeptide and sequence of nucleotides in mRNA. It directs the sequence of amino acids synthesis by the proteins. George Gamow suggested that genetic should be combination of three nucleotides to code 20 amino acids.H.G. khorana has developed a chemical method to synthesis RNA molecules with the defined combination of bases. Marshall Niernberg's cell free system for protein synthesis finally had in the code to be deciphered.
