The change in the behavior of Mr Hamel was just because of the sadness in his heart. He was feeling so bad about the end of French teaching. Because in view of Mr Hamel French is the wonderful and unique language . But the situation was no one in the village was trying to learn French which is their national language. Since the Prussians were going to rule the France. The new rules were also imposed by them on Alsace and Lorraine . The rule was German would be taught instead of French. On the day when Franz was late and also hadn't prepared the participle, Mr Hamel didn't scold him since it was his last lecture of the French in the school. When everyone in the village got to know that they all came to school to learn their last lecture on French. They all wanted to show their respect towards Mr Hamel. Franz who never tried to learn French before this ,was learning very keenly his last French lesson. His books were then looking as Franz's Friends.
