In biology, turgid refers to cells or tissues that are swollen from water uptake. Turgidity is the state of being swollen or turgid, especially due to high fluid content. Turgidity is a cellular state in which a plant cell, having absorbed water, is in a state of tension. A turgid plant cell is a plant cell that has been filled with water as a result of osmosis.
