A positive number is 5times another number . If 21 added to both the numbers ,then one of the new numbers becomes twice the other new number . What are the numbers

x = 5y

x + 21 = 2( y +21)

x + 21 = 2y + 42

Substitute the first equation in the second one,

5y + 21 = 2y + 42

5y + 21 - 2y - 42 = 0

3y -21 = 0

3y = 21

y = 21/3 = 7

x = 5y

Therefore, x = 5 * 7

x = 35


The number is 35.
