The ages of Rahul and Haroon are in the ratio 5:7. Four years later the sum of the ages will be 56 years what are their present ages?

Let the present age of Rahul be x years and Haroon be y years

Ratio of their ages = 5:7

x/y=5/7
⇒x=5y/7 ⋯(1)

x+4+y+4=56

x+y=48

From equation (1) x=5y/7

5y/7 + y = 48

12y=7×48

y=28

put y = 28 in equation (1)

x=20

Age of Rahul is 20 years and Haroon is 28 years.
