Ustad Bismillah Khan, the renowned shehnai player, said that ‘music has no caste.’ This means that music is universal and is not bound by religious and geographical limits. A person does not consider the caste or religion of the musician before listening to and enjoying his music.

Ustaad Bismillah Khan’s life exemplified the rich, cultural heritage of India. Despite being a devoted muslim, he played his shehnai every morning in the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Benaras. Thus, Bismillah Khan's shehnai was successful in proving that music has no religion.
