a +(b + c) = 1 + [(-1/2) + (-1/4)]

= 1+ [(-2 - 1)/4]
= 1- 3/4

= (4-3)/4

= 1/4 .......... (i)

(a + b)+c = [1+ (-1/2)] + (-1/4)

= 1/2 - 1/4

= (2-1)/4

= 1/4.......... (ii)

From (I) and (ii)
  a+(b+c)=(a+b)+c
