Android version indicates the version of Android platform. The bigger the version number is, the newer the Android is. Android has code names for different versions too. They are all confectionery-themed (Pie, Donut, Lollipop, Marshallow, etc.) and have been in alphabetical order starting from Android Cupcake 1.5. Till now 15 Versions of Android are fully released and the 16th Version (Android P) is partially released (Developer Preview 1). The first commercial version, Android 1.0, was released in September 2008.
