Both biotic and abiotic factors are responsible for the loss of stored grains. Abiotic factors include improper temperature of store house, humidity of air and high moisture content of the grains. Improper containers used for storage also cause loss of grains. Biotic factors include insect infusion, mites, birds, rodents, diseases caused by microorganisms and enzymatic actions occuring within food grains.
