The endoplasmic reticulum is a large network of membrane bound tubes and sheets. Its gives internal support to the cell. There are 2 types of ER : (1)Rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) (2)Smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) RER has ribosomes which helps for synthesising proteins. SER DOES NOT HAVE RIBOSOMES but helps in the secretion of lipids. Hope this was helpfull....All The Best
