At first,the roots in the first jar will compromise longer roots. Besides, roots tips comprises of merestimatic tissue therefore,cutting them affect the growth of the plant. On the other hand ,the roots comprises of merestimatic tissues,hence,cutting them would disturb the growth process of the plant.
