Electromagnet is a coil of insulated wire wound around a piece of magnetic material. Electromagnets are used in electric motors and electric bells. They are also used in fans, washing machines, refrigerators, debit cards, credit cards, microphones etc. Very strong electromagnets are used in cranes and factories for lifting heavy iron pieces.
