The drafting of the Constitution was done by an assembly of elected representatives called the Constituent Assembly. Elections to the Constituent Assembly were held in July 1946. Its first meeting was held in December 1946. The Constituent Assembly was formed in 1946. The idea of making the Constituent Assembly for framing the Constitution of India was devised by the Cabinet Mission Plan. The Constituent Assembly consisted of the elected representatives of varioius provinces who were eminent personalities in their own fields. The members to the Constituent Assembly were elected by Provincial legislative councils. They elected people from the whole country to represent every area.It was elected on December and first meeting in 1946.It cmae to force on 26th January 1950.
