The electric current is passed through a high resistance wire the resistance wire becomes hot and produces heat. This is called the heating effect of current. The electric energy gets converted into heat energy. Greater the resistance of a wire greater will be the heat produced in it by a given current. The resistance depends on the length and thickness of the wire. Similarly, greater the magnitude of a wire greater will be the heat produced in it by a given current.
