Gandhiji succeeded in getting justice for the Indigo sharecroppers through non-violence and the method of civil disobedience. Gandhiji stood for the sharecroppers of Champaran district, which were being exploited by the Britishers by charging 15% interest on the Indigo crops and afterwards demanding compensation for that 15% in order to release them from that.
Gandhiji after collecting evidence and information about the whole scenario took legal actions against the Britishers with the help of the lawyers who were supporting Gandhiji. When the court ordered to arrest Gandhiji, his followers too agreed to go in jail along with him. This led the Britishers and the court to release Gandhiji and also provide justice to the peasants of Champaran.
