Distance - the total measurement of an object to be covered in a motion is called distance however displacement- the shortest distance of an object from intial to final point is called displacement ??

The distance traveled by the object between two positions gives complete information about the type of the path followed by the object. However, displacement of the object does not give proper information about the type of path followed by the object. Distance=Speed x Time whereas Displacement=Velocity x Time.

Differences Displacement is vector quantity while distance is scaler quantity. Displacement can be zero but distance cannot be zero. Similarities They both have same units - 'm'
