Meristematic tissues are growth tissues and found in the growing regions of the plant. According to their position in plant, meristems are apical, lateral and intercalary.
When the cells take up a specific role and lose the ability to divide they form a permanent tissue. This process of taking up a permanent shape, size, and a function is called differentiation. Thus, cells of meristematic tissue differentiate to form different types of permanent tissue. Permanent tissues are of two types – simple permanent tissues and complex permanent tissues.
